The president of the United States is now pushing individual stocks with his cabinet because his billionaire buddy is having a bad time, and the response is “nothing to see here, perfectly normal”???

What changed your worldview? It was a fine read but it mostly boiled down to project management basics, some format optimizations, and some storytelling basics.

I thought it was an interesting behind the scenes look at how seriously they take their “art” but nothing world changing. Which part of the article did that for you?

> What changed your worldview

They’re not saying it changed their worldview. Their point is that if a person is just immediately nitpicking it and dismissing it, then there’s probably something in it that can change their worldview. That person’s project management and storytelling skills probably suck (because most people’s project management and storytelling skills suck).

They don’t sell data, they just collect it to target relevant ads. If you can find an instance of them (or Google) actually selling data to brokers, please share

Brave ai summary:

Facebook’s Facial Recognition Data Collection and Potential Sales to Third Parties in Texas

Based on the provided search results, here are the key findings:

In 2022, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued Meta Platforms, Facebook’s parent company, alleging that it collected facial recognition data without users’ consent, violating Texas state law.

The lawsuit claimed that Facebook repeatedly captured and commercialized biometric data in photos and videos for over a decade without informed consent, sharing the data with third parties and failing to destroy it in a reasonable timeframe.

The state alleged that Facebook’s actions put Texans’ well-being, safety, and security at risk, and sought damages of “billions of dollars.”

In 2024, Meta agreed to a $1.4 billion settlement in the biometric data lawsuit, related to the unauthorized use of personal biometric data from uploaded photos and videos on Facebook.

Ken Paxton can't be taken seriously, nor can allegations he makes sadly. It doesn't make financial sense to sell the data itself and undermine their ad business; I wonder what that suit and settlement were about.

Teslas are especially bad for me. I think it’s the rough suspension and fast acceleration/deceleration

The instant-on power and braking takes some getting used to. For the folks who have trouble mastering it, my recommendation is chill mode. It has a much softer acceleration profile, mostly eliminating the harsh starts you might be experiencing.

Chill mode is all upside in my book. There's still a ton of power when you need it, it's easier on the tires (and thus your wallet), and you get jerked around less.

if your opinion of the most profitable companies of the past 20 years with some of the most widely adopted products in the world is that they are not innovative or able to build profitable products, maybe your definition of profitability, innovation, and product development is a bit off

15 minutes is crazy. The absolute max for anyone to do on a regular basis IMO is between 2-4 minutes

There's a hump around 2-3 minutes for myself. Once I get past that my skin gradually stops feeling like it's on fire and I can go for 8-10 minutes easy.

Cold plunging has become a bit weird.

First time I went at a sauna/spa place, it was a big deal to watch someone grit their teeth and go into the cold plunge pool, and then step right back out.

I went more recently and there were people just hanging out in it like a hot tub. Granted, it was a group and they were only partially submerged. But they were in there for more than 30 minutes and no one wanted to go into the small plunge pool while they were there.

Why would they have to live in downtown LA?

Presumably they have to be physically present within a few miles of downtown LA daily

Do you presume that because you don’t know anything about LA? Downtown LA is a specific place, and SpaceX is not located there.

Yep I am ignorant. How is my misuse of “downtown” germane to my original point?

Very low quality article

Wim hof feels great, but I always kinda feel like I’m doing something mildly unhealthy when I do it

I believe running, especially long runs will cause changes in brain chemistry. Rapid increases in norepinephrine, GABA, and serotonin. I wonder if that sudden release triggers something. Same mechanism as a runner’s high

@goggins would agree
