Orion is based on WebKit, not on Chromium. The Mac version of DuckDuckGo's browser is based on WebKit too.

You're right, it doesn't negate the question though.

On iOS it is not simple to switch to other search engines on Safari that's not in their list: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38937619

The thing is they can't control the stability of alternative methods on Safari. It's up to Apple.

But it is simple of Firefox on iOS, so if that's all you need there are existing browser alternatives

It's actually another hoop for users:

- Safari + Kagi: you just need a default browser and a non-default search

- Orion + Kagi: you just need a non-default browser and a default search

- Firefox + Kagi: you need a non-default browser and a non-default search

It might not look that much difference but in terms of thousands users, any reduction for users' steps to do, it is better.

Try out SoftMaker Office or WPS Office.

Take a look at SeaTable.

You don't have a right to the fruits of other people's labor.

He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper [candle] at mine, receives light without darkening me. That ideas should freely spread from one to another over the globe, for the moral and mutual instruction of man, and improvement of his condition, seems to have been peculiarly and benevolently designed by nature.... Inventions then cannot, in nature, be a subject of property. --Thomas Jefferson

That is about patents, not about copyright. Patents protect ideas/inventions, and are controversial. Copyright protects works, and aside from what should happen with it if the author dies, is not really controversial.

When the fruits of your labor are something that can be endlessly reproduced for nearly zero cost, I don’t think you have a very strong right to be paid.

There is no scarcity in digital media. Supply and demand will inevitably drive down the price to near zero.

The EU is trying to make it mandatory to allow sideloading. This is bad, but also the opposite of what you are saying.

Google Maps is for finding your way around where you are. Google Earth is for seeing the world.

I like the combined approach of Apple Maps.

DuckDuckGo is just a proxy for Bing, the results are the same. Kagi and Brave are actual competitors.

We're talking about competitors to Google. Why doesn't DDG count as a competitor to Google?

The Apple Arcade and Netflix versions give you double the Monkey Money as the microtransaction version. I agree they should have changed more, but it's not true they didn't adjust it.

Wait, really? It's been a while since I tried it, maybe they've changed it(or maybe I'm just being stupid) - either way, I guess I'm wrong then!

Kagi does have its own search index of niche sites, they even have an API for it. This is combined with Google results; they used to combine with Bing as well but stopped due to Microsoft charging too much money.

Very different from DuckDuckGo and Startpage which are still just a Bing proxy and a Google proxy respectively.

You are correct. Kagi is more than a Google proxy.
