We do this at CloudPeeps! It's like Crew or a Gigster but for marketing, content and community talent - https://cloudpeeps.com

Yep! This is how we started The Fetch (http://thefetch.com) – a what's happening city guide for professionals to discover local events.

I started it out of Melbourne, Australia and we've gone to 10 cities across the US, Europe and Asia Pac within a year. :)

Congrats Kale. I've been loving TimeHop lately and think it'll equally apply to non-social content. Is there a way you can scale 'curation'? This is something I'm currently researching for The Fetch...

Thanks Kate! Scaling is tough, but I think you have to use every type of feedback you can get, so for me I look at what is being read in each issue and finding patterns. Curation is all about the audience, which is why the newsletter approach works so well.

Have you thought of making the WayBackLetter a section of the HNL? Seems like you already have a great audience that wouldn't mind receiving a few links of all-time HN goodness in it. You could then save the neat WBL domain for multi-purpose cool reads from across the web!

Congrats again on the 100th issue!

I actually have a "Classics" section in HNL already. This is why I started exploring this idea since that section always has a high CTR. Actually, in some issues one of the classics will have the highest CTR of any link!

Edited to add: And I mentioned it above, but my hope is to expand this beyond just HN in the future. :)

Also you could sign up for Melbourne's Startup Digest fortnightly enewsletter - it does the curation for you... http://startupdigest.com/

Silicon Beach Melbourne has pretty much died in the arse.

There are also many user groups worth attending depending on your skills/interest.

The last meetup in Feb was great. FYI – there's a bit of a community around the @ycmelb Twitter account - http://twitter.com/ycmelb

Thanks for the tip. Do you think someone with access to @ycmelb could tweet a link to this?

Not sure who holds the account password - it might be @nedwin. I actually work at the Melbourne-based YC startup Adioso.com. The cofounders Tom and Fenn led the last one a bit.

These threads are worth viewing for info on previous meetups:

February 2010 – http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1091571

October 2009 – http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=849668

I met nedwin and kiwidrew at the last one I think. There must have been at least 30 people. I'll look him up. Thanks again.

Yeah, having Australian YC founders is awesome for championing our local startup communities too. There was a decent turnout at the the YC Melbourne meetup in February.

Has anyone ever put together a list of female YC founders and their companies? Also, is the trend for female YC founders to be solo-founders?

Congratulations to Tom, Fenn and Andrew on AV3. Great to see an offering like this coming out of Melbourne's startup ecosystem!

Nice first post and like how you've written it in a gender-neutral tone. It kind of depresses me as I envy people who have supporting partners, and feel as an entrepreneurial woman those attributes are harder to come by in a male partner. I know it's generalising, but most guys want to take the centre stage. Do they want to hold the home and emotional front together? Probably not. Sigh... :-)

Thank you. I tried to be neutral without sounding stuffy, as a lot of lit with "s/he" tends to sound (in my opinion). Plus it really annoys me when people assume all entrepreneurs are men, or that no entrepreneurs are gay. I may not always remember to do the "s/he" thing, but I wanted the first post to establish that neutrality.

If you want a supportive partner, you will find one. It may not happen right away and it'll probably be when/where you least expect it, but it'll happen. In the meantime, don't be any less than 100% happy just because you haven't found him yet :) You know that saying about smiling all the time because you never know who could be falling in love with your smile at that moment? Yeah it sounds cheesy but it's true ;)

It would be great if there was a study done about whether those attributes are more common in women. I'm sure there are some great men to be found that would gladly give up centre stage to a strong woman :) I'll keep my eyes open ;)

Wait, did I just add matchmaker to my list of duties? lol

I'm trying to do exactly the same thing - I recommend using Adioso for flight search and Airbnb for accommodation.

If you know how long you plan to travel and it's enough time to see a lot of stuff, an around the world ticket is worthwhile. Cost has gone up a little since I bought one, but if you've got the time and the drive, it's worth the money.
