The lesson I learn repeatedly on the internet is that most people don’t have a single clue what they are talking about.

It feels like maybe the wheels are starting to fall off the AI hype train. I expect complete collapse once people start figuring out that the numbers on all this don’t make sense. I’m looking for investment portfolios that will weather that storm. If you are reading this and have a similar curiosity, this is a great place to start.

I've been thinking that for years about various sources and the bubble stubbornly refuses to pop on a convenient timeline so I'm falling back on the adage "time in the market beats trying to time the market". Index funds and chill is much more relaxed than trying to determine who's actually going to survive the AI bubble popping.

this is the reason I refuse to budge from my index portfolio besides small 'play money' ventures. My investing philosophy is basically by the time it hits wire you dont know what portion of it factored in. especially in age of AI and automation IMO alpha will vanish faster as anyone can code up eqv of a bloomberg terminal themselves. So all thats left is how do you manage downturns, when market heads down 30% but your handpicked stocks go down 60% you need to have enough wherewithal to hold through bad times. this is where true test of faith comes, I believe I would be cowardly and sell out at wrong time. So its best to just hold index and market sort the bloodbath out itself.

Market makers are not going to let anything collapse, there is not going to be a "storm".

The government and everyone with any money/power are fully invested in keeping the market going regardless of any kind of reality.

"Every American child under 18 with a Social Security number can have a federally recognized "Trump Account," a one-time $1,000 IRA seed deposit"

By doing this every citizen will personally have skin in the game and want markets to continue to rise.

I’m so relieved to see this is the top comment. I was afraid I was going to see HN people saying how great this monstrosity looks.

I hope there is some plan to thwart this, as New Orleans is my favorite city on Earth. Truly unique culture and history against the homogenization and suburbanization of America. If you’ve never visited, please go.

They'll wall off the tourist portions of the city that are worth the expense and let the sea take the rest.

The tourist portions of the city are created and supported by the surrounding population; they generate the parade, music, and celebratory culture year round. We can't just abandon or move the residential areas and keep the rest intact without it becoming a Disney main street facsimile version mocking what it once was, which would destroy the tourist appeal outright.

I agree with you except for the last part, NOLA is gonna get frog boiled into exactly that Disney facsimile, people have shown they aren't discriminating about authenticity to the degree that you are.

I was thinking the same thing. It truly is a magical place and unlike any other city in America I've been to. I think relocation is best for the safety of the residents (obviously), but I can't help but think "New Orleans 2.0" would end up being just another city. Unless someone comes up with a way to pick the whole thing up and move it, I strongly recommended visiting before it's gone.

They were able to raise both chicago and sacramento over a dozen feet some 100+ years ago. Maybe something similar can be done today.

Did you get a second sleep study after your breathing changes to confirm it fixed it?

No but I used Snore Lab app as well as Apple’s sleep tracking app, in addition to my subjective experience of not having a sore throat and feeling more refreshed in the mornings

Almost every single person’s retirement has exposure to this unless they have some sort of Bitcoin/gold/small cap value type portfolio.

Can LLMs torrent? That’s kind of an interesting idea. Idk if anyone will see this.

Grok probably would be willing to, ChatGPT, I can't help you with this

I've had Gemini help me with my Plex server multiple times. I've asked it pointed questions about strategies for getting specific encodings of movies and TV shows via Sonarr/Radarr, and it is happy to help - to my surprise I don't recall a single time where it has even included a caveat about only downloading media that's not copyrighted.

Yeah Gemini is fine with it as well. ChatGPT is really the worst.

Ope, well it seems you can't read it without signing in. I read it back when I had a twitter account.

But basically, Naiomi is a privacy advocate, she just helped introduce a bill to congress to ban govt buying data from data brokers. She was writing an article about privacy and SMS verification sites, and ChatGPT edited that out of the article, and when questioned, it said they were for criminals.

She ended up using Gemini, by Google, and it was fine.

Don’t worry when I track down most AI answers it is usually just some Redditor’s comment, which is quite scary when you think about it and Redditors in general.

But I want redditor's comments. It's almost my only use case of google now. What I'm complaining about is that google search can't even summary the right reddit comments.

Now if they could just vote for politicians and a political party that will do something about it…we might get somewhere.

I just assumed he was against the pope and nonsense like that.

Charlie explains why his site is named this, but the word "Antipope" does mean something already and it means specifically a person who says they are the Pope, but you recognise somebody else as Pope instead.

It's thus sometimes unclear which people are "really" Antipopes until some time passes and you're like OK, Steve was an Antipope, the Roman Catholic Church still exists, the Pope is now this Dave guy, so his predecessor Geoff was also Pope, and Geoff's rival Steve's group died out, so Steve was an Antipope, even though for a few years my church said Steve was Pope, I now know that was wrong because God wouldn't let the One True Church vanish and once Steve died his whole church went back to Geoff.

I think it is a reference to the song by the Damned, but given Stross has lived in central Scotland for decades, you'd think he'd realise by now that it sounds more like someone from the Orange Order (Protestant supremacists) in these parts. There is historically a major issue with the Orange Order and Loyalists in the areas in and around Edinburgh and Glasgow, and they organise anti-Catholic marches in many working class communities as well as violence at football matches. I have met him and doubt this is what he is after, but it comes over like this.

Charles Stross has lived in Edinburgh for years and you would think by now that something like "Antipope" comes off as Protestant supremacist rather than secularist in central Scotland. One of his close friends has a similar background and she had antipope as part of her email back in the nineties when I was acquainted with her... It caused a lot of issues when she was emailing someone who was Catholic, because they thought it was some kind of Orange/loyalist account.

Which is a terrible assumption given an antipope is just a self-declared pope
