thanks for the heads up. wasnt aware of teacher mode but always phrase prompts to "teach me" as a shortcut to get claude to explain everything its offering and prevent from just implementing code
had a new one. one of my nontechnical managers generated some ESRI Arcade (toy language) code in ms copilot then called me for 3 hours so i could help them debug it in paired programming session. were consultants (im aware. lets not unpack that now) so a nice way to score 3 hours of billable work i might have had to generate from a client. honestly wouldn't mind being the "ai debugging guy" at my office. easy and mildly entertaining billable work
funny the manager thought they could shoot from the hip like that. wonder if they think its an effective pattern
thank you! spoiler alert if anyone hasnt seen Predator Badlands
Tom self owns himself quite a bit by dismissing a movie as drivel and then comparing it to dumb plots made by adult children. the entire point of the movie is to demonstrate how dumb and bad overt masculinity is. yes its oversimplified but its Predator. the audience is hormonal teenage boys who might think toxic masculinity is cool. the entire setup Tom thought was dumb is more or less called out as dumb later in the movie
I see your take but I took it as "don't limit yourself to the confines of tradition and culture, open yourself up to others, go your own path, do the right thing, and make friends along the way to enrichen your life and meaning".
first let me say i agree its a solution looking for a problem
you can still take the glasses off. i dont own glasses but do use vr and the shift between putting on/taking off a headset feels more intentional than the glance at a phone. feels less addictive to me. maybe lightweight glasses and dark patterns will "fix" that eventually
mccain seemed quite respectable and i liked the spirit of his campaign reform efforts. they were probably more strategic than altruistic. on the other hand palin seems like shed fit right in with the clown show conservatives trot out now
in contrast: the sport i know best, hoops, a common pattern for generational players is for them to be late bloomers because they grow up short, developing skills and competitive toughness, then get lucky and grow a half-foot late in puberty
mj had a growth spurt his jr year of hs (the rest of his family is < 6') scottie had a giant growth spurt in college (was a walk on point guard and was 6') kelly olynyk is a local example of a guy who grew late in hs (also a pg before growing). bill walton was normal tall, his brothers are 6'3"ish (nba pg height), but then shot up 8 inches to 6'10" his jr year of hs. many many examples. Robinson for sure the most drastic bc he grew in the navy
now that you mention it, you have a good point that it seems less common lately
now, imagine showing up to a hike and the person youre meeting whips one of these out and proceeds to blast rap music. its happened to me and it feels like Seinfeld but 2020s
some personal advice i recently learned is to show youre boss's boss if you really want to be promoted
ive been "trying to take my boss's position" for a few years and he really appreciates it. but during my last review my boss's boss pointed said he wasnt aware of any of this. i was leaving him off all my cc lists because i figured he didnt want the cluttered inbos. he said the opposite, he thought i wasnt following up and doing my job
all my effort was actually having a negative effect in the perspective of the decision maker. hopefully i knock his socks off this year since apparently the bars been lowered to the floor
