You seem to be unaware that the Soyuz system has been safely moving people back and forth to LEO for decades. SpaceX has been doing it since 2020. This failure should only be taken as a comment on Boeing's broken engineering processes and incompetent management. It says nothing about our society's spacefaring capabilities.
>>For hackers, tinkerers, technical people who are interested in pushing their mobile devices beyond what can be done with the stock operating system: ...
I think this is poor phrasing. If it can't do many of the things that the stock operating system can do it is not pushing "beyond" the stock operating system. It is moving the phone into a little playground off to the side. That's fine if that's what one is interested in, but the phrasing gave me a different impression at first.
Really nice work. Well described and I love the number of clever solves. The syringe based landing gear is just marvelous. I imagine trying to build his own simple motors might be next. Also curious if he will start trying to use some sort of range finder to get accurate altitude during the landing phase. Just makes me happy to see someone his age so engaged already in excellent engineering.
Subscriptions are 15% after the first year. Apps from small developers also pay 15%. Given the prevalence of subscriptions and the large number of indies on the app store, I really doubt 30% is close to the average. At any rate, 15% is still sizable, but it doesn't help the conversation if we are substantially overstating the fee percentage.
Yes, ice floating is super important in our system. Another biggie is the surface tension effect. Surface tension [1] plays a big part in the capillary action that allows trees to transport water and nutrients from deep in the ground up to the top of their trunk and branches. Surface tension is important throughout nature and many industrial processes as well. Water is incredible.
You could say that again! The more I observe and understand properties of water the more fascinating it gets.
For example, the minutest of leakages can cause a havoc in a building. That’s why I get extremely nervous when I see damp walls.
Or take flowing water. What looks like a gentle stream could easily sweep away a few tons of bus. Often times vehicle drivers misjudge this to drive through a shallow rain stream and end up in a whole lot of trouble.
