True, the author is no doctor, but in this case this is not the only drug available.

In the article:

“The quiz doesn’t work,” she said.

“Oh. What’s broken?” I asked.

“Well, it seems that no matter what I do, the quiz recommends the client’s drug as the best possible treatment. The only exception is if I say I’m allergic. Or if I say I am already taking it.”

What does that have to do with anything at all? The morale of the story is he or she heard something on the six o'clock news and recommend the sister stop treatment based on that. That's extremely improper advice.

The author is apparently upset about assisting in giving what they believe to be improper medical advice so they proceeded to give improper medical advice themselves.

There's also a huge logical flaw to go from "this drug had a side effect that may have caused death in one person" to "this drug is inappropriate for my sister"

Treatments != drugs.

What if other options were therapy or surgery?

Yikes. Reminds me of this https://www.theguardian.com/money/2014/aug/29/london-renters...

I guess in this case "luxury" => "doesn't contain second-hand furniture".

For a long time, in the UK at least, clarity just is more visually appealing. In the past the role of the cellarman was much more hands-on; there was a time where beer was unfined leaving the brewery and fined on delivery once casks were put in place. Much of this art is disappearing, but it has been a while that the beer has been designed to be clear. With that, the bottom of casks are murky with yeast (since filtering is uncommon) and isinglass - which may make you ill (it tastes bad too) so cloudy beer has been associated with off beer or the end-of-cask.

I've tried serving a cask wheat beer which was rejected purely by appearance in the past.

Mind you, things have been changing rapidly in 5/6 years and many breweries make their tasty products without isinglass (or vegan-friendly alternatives+). Some choose to be fairly close to pin bright and others less so - depends on many things like more flocculant house yeast, etc.

I can say that around 5 years ago, a brewery made the decision to switch to being unfined for flavour - and their products were cloudy then onwards. It was difficult to 'sell' then, but now it's a commonplace. And yes, a pub did an informal experiement: flavours were altered with the addition of isinglass but from a general public opinion was divided in which they preferred (almost 50/50)

+ not necessarily equivalent. Some products are introduced during the brewing process, not after

There are generally 2 reasons to avoid garlic and onions - 1) they are considered 'stimulating' (eg: Krishna) and/or more likely: 2) onions and garlic are bulbs - if you uproot them you effectively kill the plant whereas other vegetables you harvest their fruits/leaves/etc and the plant lives on.

8) Better beer

Definitely.

Wine too ;)

I hope this "developer" never touches any critical software.

I wonder why it reminds me of http://dilbert.com/strip/1996-01-31

> there's plenty of immigrants from Asia who'll happily rent and buy up with funds they earnt via questionable means in their home countries

Way to go there - all immigrants are rich and earned their riches via questionable means!

This kind of "blame the immigrants" is spreading; a shame since I thought Australia was on top of that.

I blamed:

> This is one-person one-vote "democracy" at work: the land-owners vote in the government that restricts supply via zoning laws, and boosts demand via immigration and international students

as well as:

> 95% bank loans available on houses and apartments

and:

> a bare majority of people have jobs they hate and [...] leave their jobs as soon as they can

yet you read all that as "blame the immigrants who are all rich and earned their riches via questionable means"?

Australia has never been on top of its problems with immigration.

Gee, thanks for that. Next time I'm scooping cooked rice out for dinner I would hope that the other occupants of the house have not used it as a spank paddle.

I have never seen anything like that used for scooping rice...
