This is why I believe capitalism cannot survive AGI

I would like to add that for what it's worth, I wouldn't mind slower compilation times if it means we get the type system as described. If it really does end up having a significant impact on performance, would you be open to making compile-time type-checking optional instead of scrapping the whole thing?

If it comes to this, we will certainly need to have a discussion on the topic. So I am definitely open to discussing the idea!

what are the alternatives?

What's the difference?

“Gets paid more” means single employee makes $100k, employee with a family makes $150k.

“Costs the company more” means they are both paid a salary of $100k, but the healthcare insurance for the employer with a family costs $50k extra.

It costs the company more. It also provides value benefit to an employee with a family. I'm not sure that distinction really changes anything. :)

An important distinction.

Quite simple: you don't. Time and space complexity is an implementation detail, if you care about those things then declarative programming is out.

Funny thing, I'm working on a game right now, using react and pixi.js and I implemented something very similar to what you're describing here! It's been fun so far

Can you share a link to the reddit discussion? I tried searching but I couldn't find the post.

WSL has horrible horrible IO performance. It's really not going anywhere until they fix it, and the fix won't be easy

But they don't really need to fix it. Sure, it'd be nice, but they're targeting developer machines and utilities with WSL, not a server replacement of Linux. Nobody would buy a Windows license just to serve from LAMP stacks on WSL over Azure or something. Speed requirements for dev machines are a little less stringent, and as long as they are hitting better-than-Docker numbers, they will still be providing value.

Sidenote: looks like I/O performance is really not that bad in most cases already, and sometimes even faster than Linux distros like Ubuntu: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=wsl-febr...
