Why does the article say it's 3 nautical miles off the coast? If you just zoom out a bit on google maps, I measure the mainland to be less than 1000 ft. away.

I think it’s the distance by boat to the nearest dock, not as the seagull flies

WebGL coded from scratch. Truly remarkable.

Truly fascinating, even more as you mentioned how these are written.

I wonder if rive or Lottie can achieve something similar

whoa, that is truly amazing.

new to all this, but any reason it does not use any frameworks? (or are there no WebGL frameworks?)

Is it just me, or does that look like a drywall screw holding the handle together?

I think the entire thing is a 3d-printed prototype. It definitely needs some more love from both product designers and mechanical engineers.

Omg yes!! That cannot be unseen!

I wonder if they just recently decided to go with the CM4 module and failed to update the specs to match. The video shows them using the CM3 module, which does have lesser wifi/bt specs.

My only wish for v2.0 of this would be an integrated touchpad so I don't have to use a separate mouse. Similar to a Logitech K400 wireless keyboard. I don't know how many times I've been in a situation where it's challenging to find a surface to use a mouse on when I'm working on a Pi project. Workshop, electronics bench, just doing something real quick on my lap, etc.

I know it's a niche, but I would love to have a trackpoint on it.

If we're making a wishlist for v2 we may as well put "full sized hdmi ports" on there.

I agree. That seems like a wasted opportunity for the form factor change -- at least one full-sized hdmi port would have been a great idea.

My wishlist would be no HDMI at all. Proprietary and licensed, while we have as capable (if not more) options available.

What are the preferred options? The only I can think of is DisplayPort, which has a license (and associated fee) now.

Everything else is too big (DVI) or old and big (VGA)

Oh, I did not know that. I was under the impression the DP is open and free.

That's not what was said. A "single person" cannot make a lead pencil. I agree. Ask yourself whether the Primitive Technology guy could make a pencil in the middle of the Australian rain forest. He can make a lot of great things, but in order to make a pencil, he would need additional tools, and those tools would be made by someone else, hence the statement that "a single person cannot make a pencil."

My statement is 100% consistent with Friedman's original statement: https://thenewinquiry.com/milton-friedmans-pencil/

Note that multiple times in history, due to war reasons, societies independently developed making pencils because they did not have access to the resources, and substituted other resources.

I'm guessing here, but it could be possible that the actual heating of the filament is done entirely with the laser, and the job of the heated nozzle is simply to keep the filament at temperature all the way until it is extruded. It may have not been possible or feasible to combine the laser heater and nozzle, hence the need for both parts.

When the Laser heats the filament, it's 1.75mm in diameter, so to get it down to the 0.4mm diameter for extrusion a nozzle is still required which also needs some heat so the plastic doesn't resolidify.

No, the steam engine started the industrial revolution.

It's not the ground surface that's causing the reactive lifting force, it's simply the thrust caused by the water jets. Unless the ground ends up blocking a jet, the shape and orientation of the ground shouldn't have an effect.

The car most definitely has software controlled anti-lock braking equipment, and likely has software controlled electric brake cylinders. Both of those things could plausibly be updated via an OTA update.
