> Out of more than 1,100 votes, the person was urged to take the Netflix job, where he said he was being offered $580,000 a year.

Are these real salaries? How??

I know people getting packages well in excess of that. The difference between the bottom and top of software job pay packages is starting to resemble athletes or actors.

580k per year is reasonable considering the value that one engineer can provide to a company that large.

also, I’ve heard that Netflix salaries in particular are higher than most other tech giants because they don’t offer any other benefits.

I think benefits are as usual and the salary is making up for no equity. They do sell discounted shares (and apparently OOTM ten year LEAPs?)

Please, not this again. Just go to levels.fyi and see for yourself.

Well, they call it total compensation, and it includes salary, bonus, and RSUs.

I agree with sticking to the M1 macs. I stayed with my older 2015 MPB for now until the new MPBs come out and by then there will be better Apple Silicon support. Instead I bought a used System76 Meerkat, which is an Intel NUC essentially, and I have that small thing sitting in my desk. So, I can ssh into it, or when at home sitting in front of my desk, I can connect it to my monitor and have a Linux machine.

Awesome site, thanks for it! I am going to switch to it! One request: on mobile, when going back to HackerDaily from clicking a link, it loads the HackerDaily page at the top, so that I have to scroll back down to where I was. Minor inconvenience, but compare it to HN where I browse back, and HN loads right where I was. Again, thanks for this!

Had never heard of Blind. Thanks for that! will check it out

I’ve found there’s simply a time of the day it’s so much easier for me to focus. No idea why, but around 11 pm it turns on. I wake up early for work, but still, if I’m trying to do something, I can focus so easily at that time. At 2-3 am I have to force myself to go to bed cause I know I need to wake up early. No matter what I try during the day, nothing compares except the rare cases when something in prod is broken and everything is urgent. Maybe try just listening to your body instead of tricking it

Gog by Giovanni Papini.

I read it in Spanish, and apparently it's not the easiest book to find in English, but if you do, it's definitely different.

That site alone deserves its own mention in this context?

At least for me it was worthy of bookmarking.

If you read other sources on the story of this guy, most seem to make him seem like a scam. But since I can’t judge what is “fake news” and not, all I can say if fuck this article for making it seem like Ecuador is making a stand against the US for some kind of freedom. Being from Ecuador, I can realize that this is just a political move from Moreno. He fucked over Assange because Wikileaks started revealing the dubious dealings of his family. But now he wants to seem anti-US like his predecessor Correa did by denying the extradition of some small insignificant player line Ceglia. This article makes Moreno seem like a brave leader taking a stand against the US. He is a tool trying to make himself look big after escaping any Wikileaks accusations. Fuck him and Ceglia

The reaction from the US seems a little outsized too - why is the FBI swarming this guy and US bothering to attempt to expedite for something that’s basically a petty fraud attempt?

He fabricated evidence in a lawsuit over the ownership of a multi-billion dollar company. I am not surprised the feds took interest.

I agree with the multiple apps and not knowing which ones to use where.

However, as an example, when Uber and Lyft left Austin, one of the companies created locally (RideAustin) to replace the gap does allow payments via Apple Pay. Very convenient, and they also give you the option of rounding up to donate to a charity of your choice.

I guess it's just up to all the other options to realize what people want.

Except... The negative reviews on RideAustin are pretty much all about people having horrible payment-method issues.

Apple Pay is great if you're immersed enough in that ecosystem, but otherwise? Uber and Lyft store CC info, allow for easy deletion, and take PayPal. I'm glad Ride Austin exists, but they still seem to be several laps behind on letting you give them money.

Ah, I was in Austin last year, but ended up renting a car for autonomy. I vaguely remember seeing signs for RideAustin - is that the only app?
