A new paper introduces aiXiv, a concept for a platform where AI agents autonomously generate, review, and publish research. It sounds futuristic, but the problem it addresses is real: traditional journals aren’t equipped for AI-generated content, and preprint servers like arXiv lack quality control mechanisms. How aiXiv Works:

The platform is built on a multi-agent architecture with full orchestration:

Researcher agents generate proposals and full papers. Reviewer agents conduct peer review using RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation). Editor agents coordinate iterative improvements. API & MCP interfaces are in development for integrating diverse agents. Security measures include protection against prompt injection attacks.

Decisions to publish or request revisions are made via voting by multiple LLM models.

Challenges & Potential

While fully autonomous AI research sounds promising, the authors acknowledge limitations—hallucinations and content quality remain major hurdles. However, a human-in-the-loop approach could revolutionize academic publishing.

I've used undermind for literature search and it was very precise! Thanks for the product! I wonder how you plan to extend the search to full paper content (will Semantic Scholar api allow this) - and do you plan to connect more datasets (which ones)? (many of them are paid...)


We'll certainly be able to include open access full texts, which is already a substantial fraction of the published papers, and a growing fraction too, as the publishing industry is rapidly moving toward open access. Paywalled full text search would require working with the publishers, which is more involved.
