First his next film won't be released for something like 4 or 5 years he's only just started working on it, so it's a terrible time to give him a sendoff.

Second The Wind Rises was already supposed to be his last film and see how that turned out.

Miyazaki is the kind of people you send off at their funeral and no sooner.

And before that, Ponyo was supposed to be his last film. He retires on a regular basis.

And before that Spirited Away, and before that Princess Mononoke, and before that... Miyazaki retiring has become kind of a meme in anime communities over the past decade or so.

That is what he said with the previous one as well, but if I recall correctly he missed doing it (luckily for us).

Ugh it will be CG what a travesty. He needs to make at least one more true animated film.
