I neither like nor dislike Tesla but most of you are missing the point. The cars are semi-autonomous not fully. They are hardware ready and one day will get a firmware upgrade as such. It is very, very clearly stated that you are still responsible for driving the vehicle. If you choose to focus on your phone or watch a movie or read a book, etc, well bad things can happen. Slamming on the brakes or taking evasive action is not appropriate for a semi-autonomous car to do. What if the Tesla driver survived but an innocent person in another car was killed. Wow, would everyone be screaming. We always like to blame something and not take responsibility. Last year a woman made a left hand turn in front of a slow moving transport as I was driving in the lane beside the transport. She drove right in to the drivers door and then tried to tell the police it was my fault. Until something is proven otherwise this looks like someone taking the tech for granted and not watching the road inspire if instructions and warnings. Tesla is I no way at fault at this time.
