Fortran is still highly relevant in the science community. I worked with a couple senior scientists from a national lab and they mainly only knew Fortran and C/++. Almost all their legacy software was in Fortran so everyone who joined the group had to learn it too. Not coincidentally, they mainly teach Fortran and C++ during my physics minor (same programming courses as majors). I know they introduced Python to the curriculum these past few years though.
