Even putting aside its educational value (questionable), 80s BASIC still matters for the same reason that COBOL still matters: I know for a fact it is being used to run businesses with $1m+ annual revenue (I get paid to maintain a couple of them). Quasi-ERP type systems sold in the 70s and 80s continue to survive on commercial interpeters like ProvideX (https://home.pvxplus.com/) and BBX (https://www.basis.com/). Note, I'm not saying that's a good thing or that it's fun to work on.
