A problem with EVs is that they don't ultimately displace oil consumption. As long as oil is freely traded and pumped, an EV will just direct a car's share of oil to some other use (lowering demand and oil price so someone in a developing country can afford to use more fuel, for example). This combined with the high lifetime CO2 footprint of EVs (on the order of 50% of the lifetime footprint of petro car), this will make global emissions worse and not better. And also, the vehicle replaced by the EV will be sold, on the short term increasing supply of used cars and enabling more private car use.

Agreed on the bicycles.



Yeah, I agree. EVs are not the best way to reduce GHG emissions. But at least they improve the air quality in cities.
