BreakDOM (hakim.se)

This is brilliant. But I got bored soon because there were too many bricks. Maybe you should increase the size of the bricks.

The number of bricks has been decreased slightly. I don't want the single level that the game consists of to be defeated too easily so there's still a pretty high density.

How about reducing the bricks again significantly, and instead measuring the time players take to complete the level? They could then post their high score to Facebook or something.

Great idea. That would make the gameplay much more interesting.

I felt the level was too easy, after a while it just got repetitive.

If you want to make it harder, then you should consider making it faster and the reflection angles a bit more random.

Or as Udo suggests, play for time.

I was expecting an easter egg on completion. Instead, i got 200 alert messages.

Great stuff! Would be lovely to have it like a bookmarklet so I can play it on any page's DOM :)

Something like: http://erkie.github.com/

Very nice. It's too easy to bounce the ball back at a perfectly perpendicular angle to the bat however. Maybe add a tiny amount of randomness to the reflection angle.

Top work! I'd love to see a writeup of how it was done.

Omg omg! You won! Totally deserve a prize, but I don't have one :'(

I usually fail at breakout.

The guy who created this now works for http://qwiki.com

Just realized that I put this under /experiments/_html5_ on my server. Misleading.

Cool. This made me remember the first brick game that I've played, Paranoid(http://www.robots.ox.ac.uk/~north/Paranoid.html). Think that was in 94 or 95 haha And we can still buy it (:

Anyway, good stuff man.

I was disappointed that re-checking the falling boxes did nothing to change their ability. Nonetheless, this was a really cool misuse of DOM elements.

Make sure to check out the dada experiments listed as inspiration over at - http://the389.com

Hilarious use of browser UI. I think the best touch is the scroll bar being the paddle.

Why does the gameplay randomly speed up, slow down, or sometimes nearly come to a halt?

What browser are you using? Smooth as can be on Chrome in Win7.

slow to start on ie9, gets slow about half way through on firefox 4. looks like this game is the type of scenario that really utilizes chrome's crankshaft

eternal loop alert message upon winning? :P That is a great way to reward somebody. </sarcasm> Haha.
