I grew up with electric stoves, and had always found gas ones cumbersome, despite hearing much praise for it. I've always assumed it was a matter of what you were used to. In particular I like that electric stoves can have a very low setting. I make hollandaise without a double boiler, and have no trouble simmering soups for hours without scorching.
My point isn't to debate the merits, just to show that I assumed that if I spent time with a gas stove I'd learn it and come to think of them as highly as other people do. Interesting to learn that may not be the case, but is a least partly driven by marketing.
But they get less experience with working with the alternatives. Gas certainly works, and so does electric, but how many people use both extensively enough to form an objective preference more than the convenience of familiarity?
