Ask HN: What are some good ebooks about the history of the computer industry?
2 points by ipaddr on June 18, 2021 | hide | past | favorite | 4 comments
I recently came across the story of WordPerfect because of a comment on hw (http://www.wordplace.com/ap/) and I found the CEO story to be so interesting because it covers running a business by programmers in the pre/post-windows era of history.

I'm trying to find other books about the history of the computer industry from an insiders prespective.

Can anyone recommend anything similiar?

“The Idea Factory” is the story of Bell Labs and the development of the transistor which led to Silicon Valley.

Fire in the Valley, Freiberger and Swaine.

Soul of a New Machine, Tracey Kidder.

Dealers in Lightning, Michael Hiltzik.

I’ve only read two and I enjoyed them both.

- Steve Wozniak’s autobiography

- Walter Isaacson’s The Innovators
