I do wonder if the world will "re-invent" ekranoplans so to speak. Improvements in engineering design, tooling and material science could make them economically viable in a niche of the global economy. The problem was that they had so little room for error. But I guess landing a rocket vertically on a heaving ship is also tricky, so maybe the problem is surmountable.
