I had to go look at the ingredients of the two truffle products I have. A housemate got some truffle salt a little while ago and I was quite enjoying the flavour of that, so I bought some truffle-infused olive oil from the supermarket.
The truffle salt does say it has actual truffle from a town nearby (well 250km is nearby in Western Australia) known to have a truffle industry that grows Black truffles (Tuber melanosporum).
As for that particular olive oil, I don't think I'l be paying the premium for "Truffle Oil Flavour" again.
