Which bank has these mythical 5% interest savings accounts? I’m pretty sure that for most middle-class people, savings interest isn’t a real thing and can be safely disregarded when making decisions.

Credit unions and online banks. http://www.cnet.com/personal-finance/banking/savings/these-h...

If you’re willing to settle for 4%, they’re everywhere now.

Tons of banks are offering around 5% on savings accounts and CDs. I have a 6-mo CD right now at 5.05%. My Apple savings account is at 4.50%

Times have changed.

I've gotten a lot of mileage out of NerdWallet over the years. Hope it helps you too.

Cash in a brokerage account. Admittedly, not a "bank".

Vanguard VMFXX - 5.28%

Fidelity SPAXX - 4.97%

In the US? Ally offers savings accounts with great rates (usually 50% off prime, so currently 4.25%) and in my experience is a fantastic bank. Way better than credit unions I’ve banked with. https://www.ally.com/bank/online-savings-account/

Hilariously, Ally used to be GM’s finance division.

Wealthfront's checking account is at 5% right now.

well - for starters, my current primary HYSA has a 5.15% APY atm lol
