ISIS has done vile, repugnant things to people and I know their human victims should be foremost in my thoughts but the real reason I want to see those bastards burn in hell is the destruction they wrought on the archeological treasures of the Middle East. You can judge me. I care almost as much about ancient stones buried in the desert as I care about living, flesh-and-blood humans. It's probably because I'm Greek and we grow up with those ancient stones from early childhood. Those of us who give a shit anyway.
... btw I'm not forgetting who it was that invaded Iraq and first ran roughshod over thousands of years of archeological treasures.
Also in like sense the giant Buddha carvings in Afghanistan, and of course the iconoclasts who destroyed the stained glass windows of British Churches and Cathedrals...
Do we include Oliver Cromwell for melting down everything of the prior coronation regalia except a silver spoon? The Soviets for destroying the remains of where they shot the tsar's family? The communards for pulling down stuff in Paris? The loss of the Bastille?

You mean the Assyrians? Yes indeed they ravaged and destroyed the remnants of great civilizations that lived more than two millennia before them. Their brutality was legendary. It was about time somebody did to them what they did to Sumer!
(Just kidding of course I know who you are referring to. I find it hard to truly grasp the timescales of the past.
You jest, but one reason that destroying the history of the Middle East is so harmful is the constant vandalism by basically everyone against everyone else in the region since the dawn of history (and probably before). The Americans were just the latest barbarians getting in on the game. But I expect modern people to be aware of all this and not be like the bloody Assyrians.
