The casino was not required to keep the table running.

It's not illegal to count cards but the casino can tell you to leave, and it you don't you are then trespassing.

In New Jersey the casino is not allowed to ask you to leave for counting cards. They can only force you to bet the same amount and/or shuffle every hand.
