Well, in my book FTP is The Absolute Worst Protocol Ever Invented :-)


It's high on the list, certainly... I might be inclined to hate more on the SOAP designers these days, but FTP does very well on the "idiotic complexity in few pages" metric.


From a readability or operational perspective? Yes, it was done much too early to take advantage of eventually emerged common ways of doing things (I would never guess in ftp, there's no rhyme and little reason), but files seem to go back and forth pretty reliably once you've properly asked for what you want.


I think anyone who has ever had to edit firewall rules would agree with you.
