Why? FastCGI is slow. Controlling the entire HTTP stack is fast, and makes deployment much easier (only one piece of software to configure, not two or three).

Fastcgi has a lot of limitations. We have a clean slate here, might as well shoot for the stars.
Of course, if someone wants, they can totally do something via FastCGI too.
