In between releasing a bunch of upcoming features and upgrading Rails from 3.2 to 4.2 I'd rather wait with _also_ moving from ActiveRecord to Sequel for the time being.

yes, by all means upgrade yourself to the latest release of Rails before attempting to go "off the rails" :)
